Nestled on the banks of the mighty Clarence River is the town of Maclean. On the surface it looks like any other Australian town, but stop a while and you will find a wealth of history and character. At the very heart of the town is the Mighty Clarence River. Whether you are picnicking on the banks or throwing a line in, you can’t help admiring the sheer vastness before you. If you are coming for a few days don’t forget to bring your fishing rod because a catch is virtually assured and if you are touring the Maclean Showground, overlooking the river, is RV friendly.
You will be amazed at the array of food outlets that Maclean has to offer, in fact you could stay here for a mini break, have breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week and never dine at the same place twice.
With the Cairn up on the hill and hundreds of different tartans to be found painted on the town’s power poles, you will think you’ve been transported to the land of pipes and haggis. If your family has a tartan, check out the list at the Scottish Shop in River Street or at Ferry Park Gallery Tourist Information Centre.
