Today’s “Catch up with a Cop” was well received and well attended with over 50 local residents and business owners present, as well as Coffs-Clarence Police District staff including District Commander Superintendent Joanne Schultz, Richie Williamson MP, Clarence Valley Community Information, NBN Television- News Lismore, and Clarence Valley Independent.
The main learning from today was that if you feel unsafe, you should call 000, even after an incident. Police need the records of the calls- the statistical data- to allocate resources. Please do not call the local station in Maclean or Grafton as your call is unlikely to be answered.
Furthermore discussions were had about illegal drinking of alcohol, drug use and violence in our public spaces and what the plan was to resolve this. (This has already been raised with Mayor Ray Smith in December). CCTV will again be requested for the park space adjacent to the River to protect all users, including tourists, residents, local businesses and CVC staff. Please report illegal drinking and anti social activity to 000 at Superintendent Schultz’s request.
We recommend downloading the Community Crime Prevention WeWatch App, which was built to empower communities safely and to see in live time what is going on in your local area. The more of us that update this regularly the better the source of knowledge we have in preventing crime and suspicious behaviour. As a community we can work together to protect the beautiful area we live, and to feel safe in living here. Please share this app with as many people as you can. There is a small fee to download at $1.99 and this money funds the App and allows it to scale. A very small fee indeed.
We look forward to seeing a positive change in our community moving forward and thank the Police and @richiewilliamson for their presence in our town today.
